Income tax in Lagos Life, explained
Income tax arrived soon after the first-week money exploit. It sounds scary, but most players will never pay a kobo. Here's how it works.
The weekly brackets
| Pay earned this week | Tax rate |
|---|---|
| First ₦1,000,000 | 0% |
| ₦1,000,001 to ₦10,000,000 | 20% |
| ₦10,000,001 to ₦50,000,000 | 40% |
| Above ₦50,000,000 | 45% |
These figures are player-reported, not official. The game is patched often, so treat them as a starting point.
Each rate applies only to the part of your pay inside that band. The count resets every Monday, so the ₦1,000,000 allowance is weekly. Tax comes off automatically as you're paid, in ₦50 steps, and there's nothing to file.
Worked examples
| You earn in a week | How it's worked out | Tax |
|---|---|---|
| ₦528,000 (top Real Estate pay) | All inside the allowance | ₦0 |
| ₦3,000,000 | ₦2,000,000 above the allowance × 20% | ₦400,000 |
| ₦15,000,000 | ₦9,000,000 × 20%, plus ₦5,000,000 × 40% | ₦3,800,000 |
What's taxed and what isn't
- Taxed: shift pay, one-off earnings like freelance gigs and contest prizes, and the governor's stipend.
- Not taxed: business income, sales, betting wins, and naira other players send you.
What it means for you
Even the best-paid careers earn about half the weekly allowance, so if you live on your salary you won't pay tax. It only bites once you stack big gigs or prizes on top. If you're ever in that position, putting money into businesses is the tax-free way to grow.
Tax doesn't touch money you already have. It's only taken from new pay as it comes in.
