11 October: Developers can now build games inside Lagos Life

Creator Shalom Rayhamen opened the game to outside developers. Games they build appear in the Games app on your Lagos Life phone, and you're already signed in when you open them. Developers get a free test environment and reportedly keep 70% of every sale, paid monthly. If you build games, details are at lagoslife.app/developers.

What it means for players: expect more mini-games on your in-game phone over the coming weeks.

11 October: Heala health app on your in-game phone

A new Heala app appeared on the Lagos Life phone. It belongs to a real health company: through the app you can buy a real health plan or talk to a real doctor. Anything you buy there is paid for with real money, not game naira, so treat it like any other real purchase.

10 October: The first CBN Governor is elected

The official Lagos Life account announced @virtuousii as the first CBN Governor, with 289,331 of 493,067 votes. This is separate from the weekly Lagos governor race. The game hasn't said yet exactly what the CBN Governor controls. Copies of the result naming a different winner have circulated, so trust only the official account. More in our governor guide.

10 October: 7 million players in 10 days

The game announced 7 million players in its first 10 days, with more than 36 million visits and over 64,000 people playing at once. Around the same time it raised $500,000 from investors at a reported $10 million valuation. Part of the game's income comes from real brands renting virtual billboards.

6 October: Abuja and Port Harcourt open

Two new cities became playable. See our Abuja and Port Harcourt guide before you move.

Early October: Income tax and the money reset

After an exploit created fake trillion-naira balances, the developer wiped the fake money and restored real balances. A weekly income tax followed soon after. Our tax guide explains the bands.
