How the governor election works
Every week, Lagos Life players elect a governor who sets one rule for the whole city. Here's how to vote, what it costs to run and which policy helps you.
The basics
- Elections are weekly. Each race has candidates, a ballot and a live vote count. Players report polls close on Sunday evening, when the term ends.
- You vote in person. Go to the polling unit on the map. Polling Unit 001 is on Lagos Island. Players say you can't vote from the phone app.
- Running costs money. The candidacy fee shows on the ballot screen. Players report about ₦50,000.
- The job pays. The governor reportedly gets ₦25,000 a day, which counts as taxable pay.
- Some weeks have no governor. Then the city goes without a policy until the next election.
These figures are player-reported, not official. The game is patched often, so treat them as a starting point.
The five policies
The winner picks one policy for the whole city and can reportedly change it once a day. It shows as a banner at the top of the game.
| Policy | What it does | Who it helps most |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum wage raise | Shift pay up 15% | Anyone working shifts |
| Food subsidy | Food and groceries 30% cheaper | Broke players and LAPO Babies |
| Transport subsidy | Danfo and keke fares halved | Players who commute far |
| Owambe season | Fun at Lagos venues 30% stronger | Party lovers and social players |
| Steady light | Shorter, rarer NEPA blackouts | Everyone tired of blackouts |
Should you run?
A week in office reportedly pays about ₦175,000 in stipend against a ₦50,000 fee, so a win more than pays for itself. The real cost is time: campaigning in chat and on the timeline takes hours you'd otherwise spend on shifts. Run once you have a cash cushion and a following, not in your first week.
The CBN Governor election
There's a second, bigger race too. On 10 October the official Lagos Life account announced the first CBN Governor, @virtuousii, with 289,331 of 493,067 votes (59%). The game hasn't published what the CBN Governor controls yet, beyond promising they'll "shape the Lagos Life economy". We'll add details as they come out.
Copies of the result with a different winner have circulated. Trust only the official @LagosLifeApp account.
Play fair
The game's terms say the role can be taken away for cheating, exploiting bugs or voting with multiple accounts. One person, one account.
